Classes meet once a week for 6 meetings, and are designed for adults & serious teens.
Adult Class fees for 6-week sessions are $180, members $165 unless otherwise noted.
Youth Class fees are $110, members $95
Workshops are uniquely priced based on length of class and materials.

Painting & Drawing Classes
Continuing Oil Painting Class
For those who have take an Introduction to Oil Painting class and would like to move on to the next level, or those with experience in oils, this is your class. All skill levels are welcome. The instructor will provide a list of needed materials.

Multi Medium Painting – Watercolor, Oil, Pastels
Initially, the goal will be to increase observation skills, with a strong emphasis on accurate drawing, determination and proper depiction of values, and color temperature decisions. Towards the end session we will experiment with using spots of varying sizes and hues of color to construct images.

Introduction to Oil Painting Class
Learn how to apply paints to the palette, prepare and tone the canvas, understand what makes a good composition, and paint in several stages to complete your work of art. You will also learn about values, mixing colors, and perspective. Individual attention will be given to each student at his or her level of ability. The instructor will provide a list of materials for the class.

Soul Painting
This is a non- instructional painting class for women of divorce and/or loss of relationship. Paint from your soul and take an inward journey. Think of it as a working mediation. Transform the painful experiences into opportunity of growth and empowerment. A variety of mediums will be introduced. No art experience necessary. Two instructors will facilitate and assist if needed. Ages 18 and older

Ceramics Classes
Ceramics class fees for each 6-week course are: $180, Members $165 (includes up to 25 lb. clay; glazes and kiln firings included.) Registration is limited to 8 students per class for pottery wheel classes. All enrolled ceramics students have additional hours (Open Studio hours) to access the ceramics studio to continue and/or complete their class ceramic projects during posted Open Studio hours during the 6-week session.
Introduction to Pottery (Wheel)
This is a beginner's class, designed to teach the basic methods and techniques of making pottery on a wheel, through demonstrations, hands-on exercises and plenty of individual instruction. Shari will help you begin to explore the art and science of ceramics!
Tool kit may be purchased for an additional $20.

Beginning and Intermediate Ceramics (Wheel)
Class instruction will be based on each students ability. Both basic techniques and intermediate teaching will taught in this hands-on class to develop your throwing and glazing skills.

Advanced Students (CAE Clayhead Society)
Students who have progressed through levels of ceramics instruction convene in this year-round class to further develop their own unique ceramics style. Year-round pricing: $115 per month, $105 Members

Handbuilding Ceramics
Beginning artists and advanced clay crafters alike will use various clay hand building techniques. Bowls, platters, tiles and boxes are just a few examples of possible hand built ceramic projects for this course. Designed for all skill levels, this course offers an opportunity to learn how to produce functional and sculptural ceramic forms using coil, pinch, and slab methods.

Figural Ceramics
Become aware of realism in the human figure. Learn the art of scanning to create lifelike three-dimensional sculpture from two dimensional drawings or photographs. Intermediate to advanced students 16 and older. Chase Winfield, instructor

All Ceramics Students Receive "Open Studio" Access
Having the opportunity to work independently outside of class instruction is a integral part of our ceramics program. All registered students in our program enjoy FREE access to our ceramics studios during “Open Studio Times” during their 6-week course period to complete their class work. A supervisor is on hand to oversee the studio during open studio hours, and access to the studios is whenever classes are not in session. See classroom door for the calendar.
Independent Study in Ceramics
Not a registered student? Prefer to do your own thing without an instructor? Independent Study in Ceramics offers the use of wheel, handbuilding and glazing areas and equipment when there is no class in session and during Open Studio times. Additional times available by appointment. You have a designated three-foot shelf to store your work. $125 per six week session concurrent with classes. Clay is $15 per 25 lb bag. Only Cone 6 clay compatible with our kilns may be used. Kiln firing charges apply: Whole kiln bisque $30, whole kiln glaze $40, one shelf $8. (Note that we do not have a gas kiln for high-temperature firing.) Signed rental agreement required.

2009 Summer Camp Schedule
‘Tween and Teen Summer Camp
Youth ages (10-16 years) are invited to explore a variety of art disciplines this summer at the Cornelius Arts Center. Camp sessions will include ceramics, drawing, painting, animation, jewelry making and more (depending on the week of camp.) Camp instructors are professionally trained (current or former) public school art instructors. Bring a friend, get out of the heat and create!
Morning Camp Sessions (9am-noon): CERAMICS
Afternoon Camp Sessions (1 – 4 pm): 2-Dimensional MEDIA (draw, paint)
Half Day $135 member/$150 non-member 9 am to 1pm* or
noon to 4 pm*
Class Fee includes supplies
Group Lunch (bring a bag lunch) *noon to 1:00 is optional lunch time for half day campers
Full Day $210 member/$235 non-member 9 am to 4 pm
Morning session will include both wheel and handbuilding ceramics instruction
Afternoon session will focus on two-dimensional art (painting and drawing) instruction
Animation is offered July 6
Jewelry Making, Felting and Origami are offered July 20.

"Bug's, Bugs, Bugs"
August 10 - 14
Using equipment made in class students will explore the area for bug friends and learn how they interact with our world.
In addition to the nature sessions each student will create a water bottle carrier, sun visor, butterfly net, bug box and decorate a camp t-shirt.
"Art, Nature, & Fun"
August 17 - 21
Exploring the neighborhood students will observe nature and plan daily projects around the secimens they find. They will learn about air currents, water conservation and other nature elements. In additon each student will create a water bottle carrier, sun visor, do some primitive printing or their handmade paper and finish up with making soap in a nature shape.
